For those of you who have asked me about Mollie, our little friend who's fighting cancer, here's an update from her parents (posted on her CarePages). Thanks, again, to all who helped support her with the fundraiser last fall, buying mugs (I still have a few) or prayers...
Update for MollieMconnect
Posted Mar 12, 2010 1:31am
Hi to everyone! We hope this update finds you all well and looking forward to spring right around the corner. If you can believe it Mollie is down here in Detroit having her last round of inpatient chemo therapy, IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE! When we look back over the last 13 months of treatments, and the 10 months of pain previous to that with no diagnosis, we sit back with a sense of numbness and relief. We cannot put into words right now the mixed feelings we are having. We are so blessed Mollie has come this far and is here today sharing her beautiful smile and laughter with us. We cherish EVERY minute of everyday. But, as her parents we are scared to death of what the future holds for her and us. Because of an inoperable tumor and metastatic lesions in the lungs the chance of relapse is pretty high and this nightmare will then begin all over again. Just like all Ewings families we pray Mollie falls in that small window (20-25%) of survivors. Mollie is a fighter and has done a super job getting through this and definitely deserves her MIRACLE. We are so very, very proud of her. This journey is far from over for Mollie but this accomplishment (14 rounds of chemo and 31 radiation treatments) needs to be celebrated. LIFE IS SO PRECIOUS, IT'S TIME TO START LIVING AGAIN!!! Mollie is doing ok right now. She is experiencing the usual pain and nausea but she is fighting through it. Each round has gotten harder and harder on her so we are so glad she is going to get a break after this. She will probably be receiving transfusions of blood and platelets next week because her body doesn't seem to rebond on it's own this far into the treatments. Many of you ask-what's next? The answer-regular clinic visits and scans every 3 months. Mollie's 1st set of scans are scheduled for Mar.30th. She will have a CT of the chest, an MRI of the abd/pelvis and a total body PET scan. This will be a very exhausting day for her. We are praying all the scans turn out N.E.D. (no evidence of disease)!! We have a very special saying on our wall at home that says, "Faith-is not believing God can, but knowing he will", that is what we hold onto each and everyday!!
Now that Mollie is at the end of her treatment we have to say a hugh "THANK YOU" to all of you that have touched our lives in some special way through this journey. The love, support, and prayers have meant so much and has gotten us here today. To so many of you that have given us meals, gift cards, gas cards, gifts and monetary support, THANK YOU! Most of it came at a time of need, like you were our angels, how did you know? To the groups of you that have organized and put on fundraisers (to help fund her treatments), and all of you that came and participated in them, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The countless hours of love and hard work for our beautiful angel means more than words could ever express. To the special people that have and are using their special gifts God has given them to help Mollie and our family, again we say a very special thank you. To all of you who have expressed your love to Mollie through her carepages, and all the special cards to her, thanks so much for putting a smile on her face, we love you!
As we write this through tears we realize over and over again how lucky we are to have our precious Mollie here with us today and all the lives she has touched, and how many lives have touched ours. WOW, are we blessed. Thank you for all those special prayers, may you continue to pray and keep Mollie, and all the children fighting this horrible disease, in your prayers. Through the power of prayer may she receive her MIRACLE and never again have to fight this terrible disease. Many have lost the battle but the rest of us affected by this disease will spend the rest of our lives helping to find a cure and pay our blessings forward! We pray our prayers for "Miracles for Mollie" are heard. We love you Mollie, more than you'll ever know. You are our TREASURE at the end of the rainbow!! May God always wrap his arms around you and keep you safe.
All our love, The Moquins
