National HIV Testing Day - Summer Fun Health Fair

The Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) is promoting National HIV Testing Day by holding a Summer Fun Health Fair on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 12:30 – 3:00 pm. The health fair will be located in the commons area on the second floor of the Floyd J. McCree Courts and Human Services Center at 630 S. Saginaw Street in Flint. Visitors to the family-friendly fair can get a free HIV rapid test, with results in 15 minutes. Visitors will also find GCHD staff from the tobacco section, maternal-infant health program, and the Genesee Health Plan providing education and answering questions. Prizes will be given away to all visitors!

The Summer Fun Health Fair and HIV testing are free to the public; however, parking fees are the responsibility of the participants. The GCHD encourages anyone who is sexually active to be tested for HIV. While any person who is sexually active is at risk for getting HIV, women and people of color are more likely to become infected. The GCHD has been designated by the Michigan Department of Community Health as a HIV counseling and testing site.
